About Wake the World Texas

For as long as I can remember I have always had a love for the lake. I was very blessed as a child as I got to spend a lot of time at Lake LBJ. My grandparents had a lake house we spent every summer going to.  I always said when I grew up and had kids of my own, I would do anything I could to give my kids those same memories. In 2001 I married the love of my life which also gave me a stepson. It did not take long for both of them to develop the same passion I have for the lake. For the last five years we have been able to give those memories to my stepson.  During this time my wife and I always felt like we wanted to do more, to find a way to give more kids these memories. A couple years ago while reading the Tige’ Boat Owners forum, there was a post titled ‘Wake the World”.  This post was about an event started by Greg Hodgin in North Carolina. He was taking kids from local children’s homes and giving them a day at the lake. If the kids wanted to learn how to wakeboard, ski, tube, or just ride in the boat, he was giving them that opportunity, that memory. I thought “WOW” this is it. I talked it over with my wife, she was in full support and very excited. We contacted Greg. We talked about starting Wake the World Texas. That year was a very busy year and Wake the World Texas did not happen, but it never left our hearts. In 2010 we were determined to make it happen. After month of planning and working out details Wake the World Texas had it’s first event July 18th.  Last year was our first but will not be our last, Our goal is to grow over the next few years from one children’s to two, three or maybe four. We want to benefit not just the children’s home, but also the kids themselves.  We will give these kids a memory they would otherwise never have the chance to have……….“A fun day at the lake”
